BATH TALKING THERAPIES

COUNSELLING THERAPY IN BATH CITY CENTRE, SOMERSET

Professional Experience & Practice

I offer long-term and short-term counselling as well as one-off consultations. I work with adults of all ages over 18 and students in counselling and psychotherapy training. I also have particular experience to work with undergraduate and post-graduate students having worked for more than six years as a staff member in the Bath University Student Counselling Service.

The field of counselling and psychotherapy has changed significantly in the last two decades with our understanding of the extensive research into the functioning of the brain. I am particularly interested in the neuroscience of emotions and positive psychology and how the findings can be applied in therapy and have extended my formative training in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling with substantial additional professional training courses in Positive Neuroplasticity with Dr Rick Hanson, in Compassion Focused Therapy and Mindfulness Courses.

What I like about these approaches is that they are positive and affirmative with the aim to build mindful self-awareness and to tap into and support our strengths. All three perspectives underline the close connection between our thoughts and our emotional states. Negative internal states are all too often the result of self-critical negative thinking and undermining self-talk that runs in the background of our minds. This running self-critical commentary compares and judges how we are doing. It is happening mostly outside of our conscious awareness as we go about our day. it leaves us with all kinds of negative inner states and affects how we deal with life. As a therapist I aim to help you to become aware of your unconscious processes and to support you to build your confidence, a more positive outlook and to make changes for the better.
